Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the services of The Margin Company: the bookkeeping services of 9412-2082 Québec inc. (Bare Bones Books) and the marketing and client acquisition services of 9453-5713 Québec inc. (The Bottom Line Company) (each, the “Service”). “We” and “us” mean the company providing the Service to you. By connecting an account to the Service or otherwise using it, you agree to these Terms.
The Service
Bare Bones Books provides AI-assisted bookkeeping for sole proprietors and small businesses. It connects to your QuickBooks Online account, with your explicit authorization, to read and update your financial data as part of delivering bookkeeping work (transaction categorization, reconciliation and financial reporting).
The Bottom Line Company provides marketing and client acquisition for accounting firms. With your authorization, it works in your advertising accounts, such as Google Ads, and tracks and reports on the enquiries your marketing brings in.
Your responsibilities
You are responsible for the accuracy of information you provide to us, for keeping your own account credentials secure, and for reviewing the work we provide. You may disconnect our access to your QuickBooks Online company or your advertising accounts at any time.
AI-assisted work
Portions of our work are performed with the assistance of AI tools. While we take reasonable steps to review AI-assisted output for accuracy, you should review the reports, categorizations and other work we provide and tell us promptly of any discrepancy.
Fees
Fees for the Service are set out in your service agreement with the company providing it, separate from these Terms. Continued use of the Service after fees are due constitutes acknowledgment of the applicable fee arrangement.
Data and privacy
Our collection and use of your information is governed by our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided “as is.” We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that marketing will produce any particular result. Bookkeeping output should be reviewed by you or your accountant before being relied upon for tax filing or other regulatory purposes.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability arising from your use of the Service is limited to the fees paid by you for the Service in the three months preceding the claim.
Termination
Either party may terminate the Service at any time. Upon termination, we will disconnect our access to your accounts and keep your data only as required under our Privacy Policy and applicable law.
Governing law
Your service agreement says which province’s laws govern it. Where it does not, these Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Québec and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to active clients directly.
